Crappie for the table, bass on the line, and two young anglers building real skills—see how Miles and Ryan made the most of two days on the water.

On August 5–6, Miles, Ryan, and their parents joined me for two days of multi-species fishing, learning, and time together on the water.
Pictured are Miles and Ryan working together to reel in a beautiful largemouth bass. It was the kind of catch that makes a great fishing day even better—especially when the kids share the moment from the first bite to the net.
We guided the family for two full days, catching a meal of crappie one day and shifting our attention to bass the next. Along the way, Miles and Ryan put in the work on casting, hook-setting, and reeling with 5’6” St. Croix Premier spinning rods.
Trips like this are what family fishing is all about: learning new skills, catching a few fish, and making memories that keep everyone excited for the next day on the lake.

The active fish were picky and concentrated on only a couple spots—but Jay, Mary, and Steven stayed after them until the walleye bite came together.

A cool, rainy break dropped surface temps to 75–77°—and the muskies noticed. See how Richard, Reed, and Josh turned a St. Croix Rod event into a moon-window Esox hunt with a musky, a heart-stopping follow, and two pike.

Fishing Reports
Cool nights teased fall, then early-September warmth spread fish back across the lake. Here’s where we’re finding musky now—and what’s next for walleye and crappie.

Midge worms on the mud, leeches on structure, and fish sliding to deeper breaks: here’s what changed on the water through August.

Fishing Reports
As water temperatures climb into the upper 70s, the multi-species bite transitions to early morning and late afternoon. Fish are scattered between weed edges and mud flats during the summer bug hatches.
